If you own a lot of music equipment whether it's a radio, guitar, piano, speakers or recording device you will want to ensure you are properly insured, particularly if your equipment is of value. Unfortunately many people don't fully understand the need for insurance for musicians and only find out they aren't adequately insured if an accident or theft takes place.

For some people, music equipment is simply a little hobby and they like to tinker with a whole manner of different gadgets and gizmos. However for some people this equipment is their livelihood. They need all of their equipment to hand and it should be in good working order. If it's been broken or stolen they end up in a really bad situation.

Often a problem that professional musicians face is the fact that insurers often put the cost of insurance up because musicians are more likely to make a claim than many other types of professions. But please don't go telling any fibs about what you do for a living. Naturally, if you work as a music teacher you can list yourself as being a teacher rather than a musician - just make sure you always tell the truth. If it's found out that you have been dishonest you will find out that your insurance is null and void. That would be a real shock to you!

Of course, you want to prevent anything bad happening to your music equipment in the first place so make sure you keep your property properly secured. If you are traveling about with your equipment try and stay with it so that nobody pinches it.
